PUDUCHERRY: The Opposition Congress legislators staged a walk out in the Assembly, on Wednesday, after the speaker disallowed their plea to adopt a resolution demanding implementation of the Supreme Court judgment in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.Opposition leader and former Chief Minister V Vaithilingam urged the speaker to adopt the resolution during the zero hour.Noisy scenes prevailed after AIADMK member A Anbazhagan objected to the demands of the Opposition leader by pointing out that speaker had denied permission when he wanted the assembly to adopt a resolution seeking to reduce the sentence to life from capital punishment for the three persons convicted in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.Following this the house witnessed noisy exchanges between the Congress and AIADMK members.Speaker Sabapathy told the members amidst chaos that the matter was sub-judice and hence could not be discussed in the house and asked both the sides to resume their seats.Congress member K Lakshminarayanan had pointed out that the matter was now lying with the lower court (Madras High Court), but the apex court had already given its verdict.Congress legislators led by Vaithilingam then staged a walk out with the speaker refusing to accept the demand.The house again witnessed noisy scenes when Anbazhagan tabled a special mention pointing out that prostitution was going on at a hotel on the East Coast Road (ECR) as per reports that appeared in a newspaper. This time, the ruling AINRC members, led by ministers Thiagarajan and Panneerselvam objected, saying that the member should not speak on the basis of newspaper report.Sabapathy denied Anbazhagan permission to speak by ruling that the member should not raise any issue based on newspaper report.Earlier during question hour, the AIADMK and DMK members locked horns on the construction of a new building for territorial assembly.
