CHENNAI: It looked like a scene out of a movie, as the Tiruvallur district police chased and arrested a gang of six that assaulted villagers in Periyapalayam police limits on Sunday.One of the gangster, who hid his identity and impersonated by registering himself under a false name to the Periyapalayam police, was later identified as a notorious rowdy from Chennai suburban limits.The police said a gang of six members were at Ariyapakkam, Periyapalayam, on Sunday when one of the men refused to pay for an ice-cream he bought. When the vendor demanded payment, all the six together brandished their three-foot-long knives and sickles at him and snatched the cash he had. When fellow villagers intervened, the gang reportedly assaulted four of them. Soon, a large crowd gathered, but they escaped in their car.On receiving information, Periyapalayam police chased the gang which was moving towards Arani in a car. The police tried intercept the gang by parking a lorry in the middle of the road, but they escaped unhurt. The police then placed barricades to stop the car. But, the car hit the barricades and passed through easily.Police finally caught up with them after the car broke down near Ambedkar Nagar within Periyapalayam police limits. When the gangsters attempted to run, they were surrounded by villagers, and finally, police arrested the gang.Periyapalayam police have registered a case against the men, who identified themselves as Vijay (25) of Mannadi, Pandian (32) of Manali, Muvendan (28) of K K Nagar, Gopi from Sankaran Koil, Iyyappan from Muthalamman Koil and Raja from Mannarkudy.Man, Lover Commit Suicide at OfficeChennai: In a bizarre incident, a quarrel between a couple led to them committing suicide in their office at T Nagar, on Monday.Sources said Kartikeyan (30) ran Cordon Technologies on Duraisamy Road, and Sridevi (28) was the manager of the firm. The two knew each other for about four years and were reported to be very close to each other. On Monday, they were into a quarrel, following which Sridevi was found hanging at the office. She was rushed to a hospital, but later died without responding to treatment. On hearing the news of Sridevi’s death, Kartikeyan also committed suicide by hanging himself in the same place.
