Coronavirus Latest Updates: Cases Cross 87 Lakh Mark with 44,684 Fresh Infections, Country to Get 100 Million Oxford Vaccine Shots by Dec
Coronavirus cases in Delhi have registered a sudden spike since October 28 when the daily infection breached the 5,000-mark for the first time and it crossed the 8,000-mark on Thursday, also for the first time.

India’s Covid-19 tally of cases climbed to 87.73 lakh with 44,684 new infections in a day, while 81,63,572 people have recuperated from the disease so far, bringing the national recovery rate to 93.04 per cent on Saturday, according to the Union Health Ministry data. The fresh cases pushed the number of novel coronavirus cases to 87,73,479. The death toll climbed to 1,29,188 with the pandemic claiming 520 more lives in a span of 24 hours in the country, the data updated at 8 am showed.

The COVID-19 case fatality rate has further declined to 1.47 per cent. There are 4,80,719 active COVID-19 cases in the country which comprises 5.48 per cent of the total caseload, the data stated.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), a cumulative total of 12,40,31,230 samples have been tested for COVID-19 up to November 13 with 9,29,491 samples being tested on Friday.

-The Serum Institute of India is planning to boost production of AstraZeneca’s Covid-19 shot as it aims to get 100 million doses ready by December. The world’s largest vaccine maker has said it is preparing the shots for next month when an inoculation drive is likely to begin across India.

-Delhi’s active cases were at its highest yesterday with 44,329 cases. 7,802 new cases and 91 deaths were reported in the capital, the data of the Delhi government states yesterday. While the recovery was at 6,498, the number of tests conducted was 56,553 on Friday.

-Coronavirus cases in Delhi have registered a sudden spike since October 28 when the daily infection breached the 5,000-mark for the first time and it crossed the 8,000-mark on Thursday, also for the first time. The sudden spike in cases comes amid festive season and rising pollution level. While Durga Puja celebrations ended on October 25, the next festival is Diwali and Chhath in November.

-Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal said the Covid-19 situation in Delhi should come under control in seven to 10 days as his government was considering initiating several steps next week to arrest the spread of the disease in the city. Terming pollution as the “biggest reason” behind the spike in Covid-19 cases in Delhi, the chief minister said the situation was under control in the city till October 20.
