Krishnanagar: A teenage girl and a college student were found hanging from the branch of a tree at Sakdaha village near Krishnagar in Nadia district, the police said on Tuesday.
The police recovered the bodies at 8:30 pm on Monday and sent them for post-mortem.
The bodies were identified as Anju Biswas (16) and Sabuj Biswas (22), both residents of Sakdaha village.
Anju was a student of class-IX and Sabuj was a BA first year student at Majhdia Sudhirranjan Lahiri College.
The police said Sabuj had a love affair with Anju but Anju's family was opposed to it and arranged her marriage in December.
On the day of Bijaya Dashami, Sabuj married her by applying vermilion on Anju's forehead and hung themselves at night with a rope from a tree.
Locals saw the bodies and informed the police.
