KOLLAM: The CPI councillors of the Kollam Corporation staged a walkout from the council meeting on Tuesday after the Mayor refused to comment on a question posed by a CPI councillor on the action taken with regard to the allegation that a corporation official had behaved arrogantly with the Education Standing Committee chairperson and CPI councillor Honey Benjamin. When the proceeding of the council began, CPI councillor Uliyakovil Sasi demanded an explanation from the Mayor as to what action had been taken on the issue. Mayor Prasanna Earnest said that she would answer the question after the general discussion. However, showing their disapproval towards the Mayor’s stand the CPI councillors staged a walkout. Honey Benjamin had filed a complaint with the Mayor a month ago and the issue was raised by the CPI councillors in the council meeting held two weeks ago. The Mayor had promised then that a probe would be conducted in this regard and a report would be presented within two days. The Mayor later informed the council that corporation officials should behave in a respectful manner to elected representatives when they ask for some files. She also added that the councillors too should not show resentment if the file or documents sought were sent through a messenger owing to some inconvenience.
