THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Babil Perunna, a familiar face in the Capital City for his one-man shows in the past few years, has once again hit the streets.Dressed up as a peasant, in front of the Secretariat on Friday, Babil was seen holding a torch of fire in one hand and a coconut shell in the other. This time his fight was against price rise. The coconut shell in his left hand stood for the empty bread basket left with a poor farmer and the torch of fire the intensity of sky-rocketing prices that strangled common man."It is high time the authorities concerned woke up to the issues. This day of Budget presentation seemed ideal to draw their attention to the increasing price rise of commodities,’’ says Babil.An artist with Akashvani, Babil took up the crusade a quarter century ago to highlight several social issues such as environmental problems and corruption plaguing the society. He had marched all the way from Kasargod to Parassala as a one-man-army.The High Court junction, Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy, the various medical colleges in the state and all administrative centres have witnessed Babil’s stunning performances. With this protest in front of the Secretariat, Babil has completed a whopping 6,000 presentations.
