BANGALORE: Suggesting a new measure to save electricity, REI Electronics launched custom-designed LED lights that can reduce the consumption of power by both private and governmental agencies.At the launch of this new lighting facility on Tuesday, REI Electronics said that in comparison to CFL lights, the LED lighting saves upto 40 per cent in power consumption and the life expectancy of the LED lights are 50,000 hours as against an expectancy of 10,000 hours for CFLs.“Mass energy consumption units like apartment complexes, malls, clubs, hotels, office complexes and streetlights should be looking at LED lighting as against CFL,” said Neela Ramaswamy, director, REI Electronics Pvt Ltd.High installation cost The manufacturers of the product claimed that LED lighting could address the problem of power shortage by saving up to 1MW per street light per year.“Though the initial cost of LED lighting system’s installation is high, a company gets its return on investment within 5 years through its vastly reduced electricity bills,” Neela Ramaswamy added.
