New Delhi: A tough contest is on between Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Aam Aadmi Party in Shakur Basti constituency of North West Delhi. AAP's Satyendra Jain won the seat in 2013 and is contesting against BJP's SC Vats and Congress's Chaman Lal Sharma.
Vats is a former Congress member and people might vote against him giving an edge to AAP over others.
"I have always voted for the BJP but former Congress member, SC Vats, has been given the ticket. He may lose the seat," says s resident KC Kant.
With 1.47 lakh voters, the seat is dominated by Punjabis and Vaishayas and the JJ clusters have nearly 30,000 voters. The constituency is divided into four wards - Saraswati Vihar, Rani Bagh, East Paschim Vihar and West Paschim Vihar.
"The fight is between BJP and AAP. Even though Arvind Kejriwal is always in hurry and egoistic, there is a very little chance of him losing polls. He is an honest person," says Krishan Kumar.
A BJP member, on conditions of anonymity, says that BJP and Congress campaign will help AAP win the election. "The way the BJP, Congress are campaigning, they are actually helping Arvind Kejriwal win the poll," he says.
Meanwhile, women voters who backed Arvind Kejriwal in 2013 polls are now supporting the BJP as they feel betrayed.
"Arvind Kejriwal did not fulfil his promise and broke people's trust. It was a blunder on his part to leave the government in 49 days. We are voting for Narendra Modi and we know Kiran Bedi won't be able to do much," say Anuradha and Neeta Vij.
AAP continues to maintain its hold on poor and lower middle class voters but the middle class people are now backing the BJP.
