New Delhi: A 26-year-old youth has been sentenced to seven years in jail by a Delhi court for raping a girl on promises of marrying her.
Additional Sessions Judge TR Naval awarded seven years of jail to Delhi resident Bhupesh Kumar saying the accused has raped the girl after taking her to his uncle's place under the guise of introducing her to his mother.
"In view of the above reasons, discussion and evidence on record and particularly discussed here in above, it is held that the prosecution has proved its case against the accused beyond any reasonable suspicion or shadow of doubt.
"The accused on the pretext of marrying the victim took her to the house of his uncle under the misrepresentation of meeting her with his mother and taking advantage of absence of the family members committed sexual intercourse with the victim twice...," the court court said, while imposing a cost of Rs 10,000 on the convict.
The boy, who is now married to another girl, was facing trial since December 2008 after the victim lodged a complaint with the police alleging that the accused while working at a HSBC credit card office fell in love with her and promised to marry her.
"After making a physical relation with the victim, the accused refused to marry her and also informed her that he had already been engaged to someone else," the prosecution said.
"In the present case testimony of the victim has been found reliable and it has been corroborated not only by her mother but also by doctors and police witnesses," the court said, while directing the convict to be taken into custody.
