A dental student at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) in Rohtak has accused a resident doctor from the anatomy department of kidnapping and assaulting her.
Following her complaint, which was filed on August 16, the police have arrested the accused and initiated an investigation.
According to the student’s allegations, the doctor kidnapped her from the institute and took her to Ambala and Chandigarh, where she was reportedly assaulted, India today reported.
As of now, no evidence of sexual harassment or rape has been found in the victim’s statement or the ongoing investigation, as per the police officials.
Rohtak’s Deputy Superintendent of Police, Virendra Singh, confirmed that a first-year BDS student from PGIMS lodged a complaint last night, alleging that she was kidnapped and assaulted.
The case has garnered significant attention following the release of a video on social media platform X.
In the video, the student is seen crying and displaying injuries from the alleged assault. She claims that the abuse has been ongoing for the past seven months and alleges that the accused threatened to reduce her attendance if she reported the incidents to the administration.
A spokesperson for the University of Health Sciences, Rohtak, confirmed that the accused resident doctor, Maninder Kaushik, an MD anatomy resident at PGIMS, has been expelled from the institution and banned from the campus, per the Times of India report.
This incident has surfaced against the backdrop of nationwide protests by doctors and the medical community in response to the recent rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.
