India is a place rich with historical, ancient lands, which have been maintained by the authorities over centuries. One of those places is the town of Dhanyakuria in West Bengal, which is believed to be a land of historical monuments, built centuries ago.
Local18 reports about the most popular monument in the area, known as the Gaine Garden of Dhanyakuria. As per the information given, the huge gate to the historical building is still standing, located on the side of Taki Road. To describe the construction of the gates, it has two circular pillars on either side of it, while a curved extension joins the two from between.
According to the beliefs, the town was a part of the Sundarbans 300 years ago, later it was settled by certain prominent families. The families carried the names Gaine, Sau and Vallabh. Going by the information given, the members of these families traded with the British to build palaces. Most of the historical architecture seen in Basirhat was made by the Zamindar families of Dhanyakuria.
The members of the families are also credited with constructing the first school and hospital in the area, as part of an initiative, Local18 reports. The colossal palace of Dhanyakuria was made by the Zamindar Mahendranath Gaine. During that time, they had a flourishing business of jute. He did business with the English from the district of North 24 Parganas so, the officials of East India Company used to visit the place daily. The palace’s architecture is inspired by European forts, which showcases their culture and tradition.
The families of Gaine, Vallabh and Sau in Dhanyakuria formed a company together, more information states. Under it, institutions like Dhanyakuria High School, several primary schools, the Town Hall of Basirhat the hospital as well as the post office building, were constructed.
