CUTTACK: Can a wedding celebration be more memorable, more noble and more unique than this? With the marriage reception of the youngest son of the family on hand, the Dalbehera clan of Talatelenga Bazaar here today ventured to do it differently. They donated blood to commemorate the wedding festivities. With the groom Lalatendu Dalbehera leading the way, the family members assembled at the courtyard of their house prior to preparations for the grand reception ceremony of his marriage and one after other proceeded to donate blood at a small camp organised there. As many as 24 units of blood were collected. The bride Anita was willing too but the elders in the family debarred her from giving blood. They did not want to initiate the new member into the family in such a manner. Lalatendu had married Anita of Nimapara on May 28 and the reception was scheduled for today.“It was a collective decision of the family. Every family hosts a feast, spending lavishly on organising extravagant parties. We wanted to make the occasion special in a noble way with every member cherishing the experience of having done something good for the society”, Lalatendu said. His sister Mila Dalbehera chipped in. “It was our late grandfather Banamali Dalbehera who instilled the spirit of service among us.He was among the first bus operators of the State but for him social service came foremost”, she said. The family has observed other festivities and occasions in a different manner. For instance, they have avoided holding parties on birthdays and have chosen to spend the day in orphanages by organising feasts for the children there. The blood donation camp was organised by Shrustee and the Blood Donor Motivators Association. The idea of donating blood to celebrate the wedding was instantly accepted by all the members, president of the association and a close family friend Ratan Sinha said.
