In the 2019 assembly elections, the BJP formed the government in alliance with Dushyant Chautala’s JJP in the 90-member assembly by winning 40 seats and JJP winning 10 seats. BJP’s Manohar Lal Khattar was sworn in as the chief minister with Chautala as his deputy. The Congress won 31 seats and seven seats were secured by Independents. The BJP-JJP alliance broke earlier this year amid differences over seat-sharing for the general election. The term of the Haryana legislative assembly ends on November 3.
