English for Corporation-run schools

CHENNAI: The Chennai Corporation on Monday hiked the financial allocation for education to Rs 15 crore in Budget 2012-13.During the Budget Meet, Mayor Saidai S Duraisamy announced the commencement of English as a medium of instruction in 30 more primary and middle Corporation-maintained schools, to thunderous applause from the treasury bench. “At present, 69 Corporation-run primary and middle schools have English as medium of instruction,” the Mayor said.A Personal Health Card, provision for video streaming in class 12 classes, installation of CCTV cameras in Higher Secondary Schools to enhance security, setting up of Sprints Academy for sports, formation of a Sports Hostel for girls, formation of NCC in 30 HSS and setting up of music rooms in 30 schools to train students in both western and classical Indian instruments were among the announcements.
