KOLLAM: According to preliminary assessment, excessive consumption of liquor and dehydration resulted in the death of three persons in the district on Sunday, according to Excise Department. Paulose (47) of Sasthamcotta, Shaji (50) of Mynagappally and Shafeek (40) of Kilikolloor were the deceased.Thomas K Abraham, Deputy Commissioner, Excise, said that initials reports did not attribute the deaths to consumption of adulterated liquor. ‘’As per preliminary medical reports, Paulose and Shaji died of excessive consumption of liquor, which resulted in the failure of blood circulation and cardiac arrest.  Shafeek, who had liver- realted problems, died due to swelling of the brain as a result of excessive alcohol consumption,’’ he said. Paulose and Shaji too had heart-related ailments. Police have traced some persons who had consumed liquor along with Paulose and they were alright, while Paulose was in the hot sun after falling unconscious. This could have resulted in his death. The post- mortem of the bodies was conducted at the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital on Monday.
