New Delhi: In the beginning the year 2012 was said to be Akshay Kumar's year as he had some big releases lined up. Towards the end of 2011, Akshay Kumar gave a moderately successful film 'Desi Boyz', and thus he was expected to consolidate his position in the New Year.
The New Year began at a good note for Akshay when his film 'Housefull 2' entered the Rs 100 crore club, but the box office magic was yet to happen. Directed by Prabhudeva, 'Rowdy Rathore' took the film obsessed country by storm and broke several records. It was Akshay’s second film to earn more than Rs 100 crore, that too in the same year.
Akshay’s dispute with the director hampered the chances of ‘Joker’ and the film bombed at the ticket window, however the actor is returning to the silver screen with ‘Oh My God’.
‘Oh My God’ is based on a popular Gujrati play ‘Kanji Virrudh Kanji’. It is also said to be influenced from Paresh Rawal’s play ‘Krishna vs Kanhaiya’.
‘OMG’ tells the story of a simple man Kanji Bhai (Paresh Rawal) who has a shop to sell antique pieces. He is a believer till a tornado hits his shop and destroys it. This one moment shakes Kanji Bhai’s belief on the cosmic forces of god.
He starts to question everything related to god till one day when Lord Krishna (Akshay Kumar) gives him a surprise visit.
There is a lot on stake in ‘Oh My God’ for Akshay Kumar as he is also the producer of the film.
The film has one more attraction. Prabhudeva and Sonakshi Sinha will be seen doing a song in the film. Sonakshi had proved lucky for Akshay in ‘Rowdy Rathore’ but their pairing was not liked by the audiences in ‘Joker’, however this time she will just be seen in a cameo.
Akshay Kumar would like to taste success with ‘OMG’ again, and thus he is leaving no stone unturned in promoting the film. The Akshay Kumar fan club would love to see him in a new role but the actor-producer would also need the blessings of other film enthusiasts for his film.
