CHENNAI: While the fuel scenario in the city limped back to normalcy following the arrival of stocks through sea and road, several bunks in the city ran out of diesel by afternoon following the huge demand. However, the scenes witnessed over the last 5 days, of long queues outside fuel stations, seems to be a thing of the past. Many bunk owners across the city said that stock of petrol and diesel arrived in the early hours. According to them, while there was a rush of motorists in the morning to their stations anticipating a repeat of the scarcity that prevailed over the last week, the news quickly spread that the situation had been brought under control. “Slowly, the crowd started to thin out. By about 11 am, we had very few coming in for fuel,” said a bunk owner on RK Salai. Some fuel stations in and around Adyar pointed out that only 75 per cent of the required quantity of diesel was delivered in the morning, which quickly ran out. They said more tankers were expected to arrive by 7 pm. Meanwhile, several motorists said that they were not willing to take a risk and decided to fill their tanks up. “We have no faith in these oil companies after what they did the last week. I am filling up my tank and taking extra stock in a can,” said V Sundaram, a business man at a petrol bunk near MGR Janaki college. In the outskirts, there was a delay in stocks reaching the bunks. “The tanker arrived at 11.30 am while we were informed that it will reach early morning. We had to turn away motorists in the morning,” said Jayaprakash, a bunk worker in Red Hills area.
