THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: UDF won six of the nine local body wards across the state to which by-elections were held.While the LDF won two, one went to the BJP.UDF wrested the Ayirathengu ward in Mayyanad panchayat from the LDF while it lost Kadappattoor in Mutholi, Kottayam, to a BJP independent.N Venugopal, the KPCC general secretary in charge of local bodies, said the result proved that the UDF had not lost the support of the masses. It, in fact, is a fiting reply to the CPM attempt to undermine the UDF victory in the Assembly elections, he said in a statement.Meanwhile, State Election Commissioner K Sasidharan Nair has disqualified one member of the Edathua grama panchayat governing council and four former members under the anti-defection law. Governing council members Shyamala Rajan and former members Latha Ramanan, Somasekharan Pillai, Elsa Cherian and M D Thomas are the disqualified.
