Islamabad: Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Sunday embarked on a two-day visit to Saudi Arabia to discuss bilateral relations, especially economic cooperation, with the top Saudi leadership.
Gilani, whose delegation includes Commerce Minister Makhdoom Amin Fahim, Minister for Industries Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi and Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir, is scheduled to call on King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz during the trip.
He told the media before his departure that he would discuss ways to further strengthen bilateral ties with King Abdullah.
Some of the issues that Gilani is expected to discuss with the Saudi leadership include an oil facility for Pakistan, enhancing bilateral trade and matters pertaining to Pakistanis living in Saudi Arabia.
"Pakistan and Saudi Arabia enjoy bilateral relations in diverse fields and the Pakistani people hold the Saudi nation in high esteem," he said.
Gilani's visit comes close on the heels of President Asif Ali Zardari's trip to Saudi Arabia late last month for easing tensions between Riyadh and Tehran. The premier and his entourage are scheduled to perform "Umrah" in Mecca on Sunday night.
