MANGALORE: The first global general assembly aiming at the unity of Konkani speaking communities planned at Kalaangann will be inaugurated on August 20, said Mandd Sobhann Gurkaar (mentor) Eric Ozario.The assembly being organised to unite Konkanis spread around different castes, creeds, regions, dialects and scripts has drawn good response.Delegates from more than 100 organisations are expected to attend the assembly, he added.The event will not only remove the stumbling blocks in the unity of Konkanis, but also present an accurate picture of Konkani speaking communities which was not even reflected in the census (2001).The assembly will pass the constitution, prepare its next course of action and elect the executive committee. On the occasion, World Konkani Day will also be celebrated at St Aloysius College.
