Government database soon to monitor salary disbursal system of firms

The Department of Labour and Employment will soon launch a database to monitor salary disbursal methods of all companies in the state.

The department officials are of the view that the new database system would bring employers, employees and disbursal agents under a centralised wages management system enabling the government to monitor whether all the companies are making proper payment to its employees.

The new system named ‘Kerala Wages Protection System’ is modelled on the system used by the Labour Department in the UAE.

The department also envisages integrating various banks to provide online facilities to all establishments for their payment for registrations, salaries and wages, exemptions, renewals and filing of returns. The database can be accessed on a government webportal developed by the IT Department.

“The Kerala wages system is approved by the government and the tender to prepare the database has been floated.

The project will be ready by next year and the companies in all sectors will be told to submit their industry details, including that of staff in their organisation,” Labour and Employment Department officials said.

Labour Minister Shibu Baby John who is on a visit to Spain would convene a meeting to discuss the implementation of the project soon  after his return. The cost of the project is estimated to be around Rs 1 crore.

Labour Minister Shibu Baby John came to know about the system during his visit to the UAE a few months ago. The system is said to be a big success there.

Later, he presented a proposal for a similar system in the state. Last month the project received the nod from the government.
