BHUBANESWAR: The State Government has decided to expedite the construction of bus bays and terminals in the City. Chief Secretary Bijay Kumar Patnaik, while presiding over a high-level meeting here, directed the Works Department and the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) to speed up the projects. Secretary, Housing and Urban Development, Sourav Garg outlined the topics for the discussion. The Works Department has contemplated to construct 55 bays along important thoroughfares of the City. The Chief Secretary directed the Department to complete 22 such bays by March-end, 2012. It has been decided that passenger rest- sheds will be built beside the bus bays. Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) will initiate steps for building the sheds. Four bus originating and destination terminals will be constructed at Chandrasekharpur, Dumduma, Pokhariput and VSS Nagar by BDA. Garg said the bus terminal near Pokhariput will be completed by November. Issues relating to plying of City buses were also discussed at the meeting. Out of total 125 buses sanctioned for this purpose, 100 buses had already been put to service. Sources said 15 more buses have been made ready and will be handed over to BPTSL (Bhubaneswar Puri Transport Services Ltd.) soon. It has been decided that 10 buses will be pressed into service by end-November. Revenue and Disaster Management Secretary RK Sharma, Works Secretary SK Ray, BDA Vice-Chairman DK Singh, BMC Commissioner Vishal Dev and Khurda Collector Roopa Mishra attended the meeting.
