New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday expressed its displeasure over MCD, NDMC and Delhi Jal Board not maintaining co-ordination among themslves to provide basic ammenities in the city's night shelters and asked the civic bodies to provide the same in 3 days.

The court also expressed anguish over DDA's demolition of temporary shelters set up for the poor people for winter.

A division bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justice Manmohan said "no facilities have been given. Water tanks have been contaminated and the shelter homes do not meet the requirement where people can live with dignity" and asked the civic authorities to provide the facilities within three days.

"We have noticed lack of co-ordination among MCD, DDA, DJB...It should have been the obligation to co-ordinate and provide facilities to save the poor from the winter chill," the court said.

The bench said it should be the obligation of the public authorities to provide shelters to the poor keeping in mind the winter and asked DDA to make functional 84 temporary shelters soon.

The court directed the Chief Secretary of Delhi government to convene a meeting on December 20 and asked the concerned senior officers of MCD, DDA, Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board, NDMC and DJB to attend the meeting.

Directing the Member Secretary, Delhi Legal Services Authority(DLSA) to visit the shelters within a week, the bench sought a report about the conditions there by the next date of hearing.

Taking suo motu cognisance over the media report about demolition of shelters in January this year, the High Court had directed the setting up of night shelters for the poor people in the city.
