New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday restrained a section of Air India pilots from going on strike on Wednesday to press their demand for higher pay and better working conditions.
Justice Gita Mittal, in an order, directed the Indian Commercial Pilots Association to adhere to their statements made before the court that they will not take the coercive step till the conciliation proceedings headed by the Chief
Labour Commissioner concludes.
The order came on an urgent plea by Air India seeking a direction to the pilots that they be restrained from going on a strike.
"The defendants (pilots) shall remain bound by the statements made on their behalf on March 7 and shall ensure that statutory provisions prohibiting strikes during the pendency of the matter before the Concilliator and therefore
in accordance with the provisions of the Industrial Disputes Act are strictly complied with," the court said.
Seeking a response from the Pilots' Association, Justice Mittal posted the matter on August 11 for further hearing.
Advocate Lalit Bhasin, appearing for the public carrier, said the tripartite talks with the Air India management and the Chief Labour Commissioner and the Pilots' Association were going on.
The Pilots' Association had made a statement before the court that they would not go on strike during the pendency of the concilliation proceedings and even seven days after of the outcome of the tripartite talks.
