KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on Monday directed the state to file a detailed counter-affidavit regarding the steps taken for protection of women passengers on trains running in the state.A Division Bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Manjula Chellur and Justice V Chitambaresh issued the directive while considering a petition filed by advocate K N Rajani and others seeking a directive to provide adequate police protection for women passengers.The state government submitted that it would provide more police personnel if the Railways is ready to bear 50 per cent of the cost as was done earlier. However, appearing for the Southern Railway, M Ravindran submitted that he would immediately take up the issue with the vigilance officer concerned and would see to it that some positive action is taken in a short time.Southern Railway submitted that the Railway Protection Force has taken steps to ensure the safety of the passengers and the railway properties. However, the petitioners submitted that the attack against women on trains is continuing and there is no proper security system in place.
