KAZHAKKOOTTAM:  Heart-rending scenes prevailed at the SAT Hospital here and CSI Mission Hospital at Kazhakoottam on Monday evening following the tragedy that struck the school van carrying students of the Jyothy Nilayam School at Channamkara,  Kadinamkulam. The traumatised relatives and locals of Channamkara area filled the hospital premises even while those engaged in rescue operations were strenuously trying to save lives at the accident site. Wailing mothers and relatives of the young victims of the tragedy were in a state of shock and seen consoling each other even when struggling to come to terms with reality. The kids who had a miraculous escape were obviously shaken by the worst day in their very  young age,  as three of their colleagues with whom they were chatting and enjoying childish pranks while returning from school, were dead all of a sudden.  The deceased Ashwin, 10, is the son of Veena.  He is also survived by a young sister.  His father had earlier passed away.  Aromal S Nair (9)’s  father Suresh Kumar is running a flour mill. Kaniha (5), the youngest among the deceased,  is the daughter of Santosh and Telma. All the victims  hailed from the Puthukurichi area.  The bodies were released without autopsy following the intervention of district administration. The attempt to conduct autopsy on the bodies provoked irate locals to create a scene in the hospital for some time.
