New Delhi: Monsoons rains, arriving a month earlier than normal, have covered entire India. The heavy rains in Delhi and adjoining areas have seen the water level in the Yamuna River rising drastically and there is danger of the river overflowing the banks and flooding the low-lying areas.

So far eight lakh cusec of water has been released from Hathanikund barrage in Yamunanagar in Haryana. The water will reach Delhi by Monday evening.

More than a dozens villages have been submerged in Yamuna water in Yamunagar district. In one of the villages, Lapra, 55 people are trapped on piece of land with swirling flood water all around them. There are many women and children among those trapped on the island. Yamuna Nagar district is just 194 kms from Delhi.

The people were trapped as they were working on watermelon and melon plantation and suddenly they were surrounded by water from the all sides as Yamuna overflowed the banks to flood the fields. All of them have been forced to stay in small rooms built in the farms.

Till now the local administrations has not done anything to help those trapped. Even the IAF has been unable to launch rescue efforts due to heavy rains and bad weather. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team has not yet reached the flooded area.

Due to the strong water current rescue teams have been unable to reach the island. So the helpless administration is waiting for the weather to improve. before launching rescue efforts.

What's your reaction?
