CHENNAI: A five-member gang murdered a local history sheeter Jeyaganesh of Royapettah over previous enmity here on Tuesday evening.Police said Jeyaganesh, 35, was riding his two-wheeler when the gang intercepted him near his house and hacked him. He died on the spot. Police said Jeyaganesh was married to Ratina. A neighbour of the couple, Arun, had eloped with Ratina’s sister. Since then, Jeyaganesh had been lying in wait to take revenge on Arun. In the meantime, he had attacked and injured Arun’s friend Senthil. Police had arrested him and sent him to jail in connection with this case. He was released from jail just a few days ago. Police said that eight days ago, Jeyaganesh’s father died and Arun and his friends had come for final rites. The rivalry renewed as Robert, a close friend of Arun, was attacked.30 Sovereigns StolenThirty sovereigns of gold jewellery, a kilogram of silver and `16,000 were robbed from a real estate businessman’s house at Virugambakkam. Those arrested include the car driver of the deceased.On May 19, Masilamani, a retired engineer who was with the Slum Clearance Board, was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Guindy.His body was reportedly burnt and so was the car in which his body was found.On the day of the incident, Masilamani of Anna Nagar West visited Erukkancherry, where he was constructing a house, but did not return. He was carrying `4 lakh with him. Masilamani’s car driver, Suresh of Thoothukudi, and five others were arrested in connection with the murder. According to police sources, the gang was also involved in various other cases.
