The iconic Indian playmaker will join the club as their star and legendary forward Teun de Nooijer has retired.

New Delhi: Renowned playmaker and captain of India's senior men hockey team, Sardar Singh, has been signed by the 2013 Euro Hockey League champions HC Bloemendaal to fill up the role left vacant by legendary Dutch forward Teun de Nooijer who has retired.

"The Dutch League is one of the most competitive in the world", the official FIH website quoted Sardar as saying. "I am looking forward to honing my skills at the club after the completion of the Asia Cup. There is a lot to learn," he added.

The 27-year-old Indian superstar was shortlisted for FIH Player of the Year award last year, which was eventually won by Germany's Moritz Fuerste. Sardar is also the captain of Hockey India League franchise Delhi Waveriders.

Praising Sardar's signing on HC Bloemendaal's website, the club's president said, "Not only does Sardar bring a lot of experience to our squad, but he will inspire the youth of our club with his fame and charisma."

Sardar is expected to join the club this month.
