Immolation bid by mill worker foiled

PUDUCHERRY: A textile employee attempted self-immolation to bring the territorial administration’s attention to the pathetic state of affairs of the employees working in SPINCO textile mill.The employee, Balaji (43) of Nettapakkam, doused himself with petrol near the state assembly building. The policemen on duty in front of the assembly pounced on him before he could light a match-stick.Balaji said that the SPINCO mill employees had tried in vain to bring the attention of the government to their problems. He added that he decided to immolate himself to get the government’s attention.
