In Andhra Pradesh, Grand Rituals Highlight 353rd Aradhana Mahotsava For Sri Raghavendra Swamy

On Sunday, the celebration of the 353rd Aradhana Mahotsava took place with great zeal at the Mantralayam village, in Andhra Pradesh. According to Local18, the event took place to celebrate Sri Raghavendra Swamy. Here is a detailed look at the celebrations and the rituals that took place.

TTD Executive Officer presented sesha vastram to Sri Raghavendra Swamy. On the occasion of the 353rd Aradhana Mahotsava of Sri Guru Raghavendra Swamy, the Executive Officer of the TTD (Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams), J Shyamala Rao and his wife presented sesha vastram, on behalf of the organisation. The event was held in Mantralayam, in the Kurnool district.

As per Local18, the TTD has been commemorating Sri Raghavendra Swamy with sesha vastram since 2006. Through the ceremony, they extend gratitude towards the sadhgurus who worked for Sanatan Dharm. More information states that Sri Raghavendra Swamy also goes by Venkanna Bhatta and Venkatacharya, popularly.

J Shyamala Rao presented the sesha vastram to Sri Subudendra Theertha Swamiji, who is the head of the Sri Raghavendra Swamy Mutt, located in Mantralayam. After that, the guest couple took Swamiji’s blessings, the reports said.

While on Monday, the Shravana Upakarma was celebrated to mark Shravana Purnima at the Tirumala Srivari Temple. At 6 am, an idol of Lord Krishna was taken to the Sri Bhuvaraha Swamy temple in a procession, which is a significant part of the celebrations. After that, the Snappana Thirumanjanam was performed, Local18 reported further. The idol, then, was anointed with items like milk, curd, honey, coconut water, turmeric and sandalwood.

Significance of Shravan

The Shravan month is considered a very holy period in Hinduism. The believers observe fast and engage in various pujas and rituals, to show their devotion to Lord Shiva. During the month, they must abstain from items like non-vegetarian food, onion, garlic and eggs. They must also refrain from consuming alcohol or tobacco. The Shravan month starts around late July and ends in mid to early August.
