Our country boasts of exceptional ancient artwork, created by the generations which existed way before us. While some of this rare artwork is lost to time or was destroyed, thanks to the technology and raw human skills, we can create stunning structures, similar to those of the earlier times. Local18 reports about a Lord Venkateswara wooden statue, which is being sold in lakhs.
As per the report, the Lord Venkateswara statue was created in Tirupati and is now being sold in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. It is being sold by a seller named Paul, at the function hall in Dwarka Bazaar. According to the organiser Raju, they have several idols, which are priced between the range of Rs 1,000 to Rs 3 lakh. The Lord Venkateswara idol is being sold for a price of Rs 3 lakh. Speaking further, Raju revealed that it is created with teak wood.
To create the idol, it took the sculptors around 3 months. Customers can find idols of every size at this place. They mentioned that even though you can create beautiful wooden artwork with a machine, it is not the same as what a handmade work produces.
As the years are progressing, the art of woodworking is being left behind. It is turning into an endangered craft, done by a select group of people. So, some individuals from Tirupati have taken the initiative to save the art of woodworking, which has been hanging by a thread for the past few decades.
The exclusive video taken by News18 shows the intricate and stunning woodwork of the pieces. It captures the magnificent, big artworks of the various gods and goddesses, each made from wood. Trees like bamboo, Sheesham, Alpine and the ones from the arid regions are utilised in woodworking by artisans. The trees from deciduous and evergreen forests can also be used.
