Indians care little about nuclear deal, says survey
64 pc of 18,750 Indians surveyed haven't heard of N-deal.

New Delhi: No matter the noise and heat generated in Parliament over the last month, 64 per cent of 18,750 Indians surveyed have not even heard of the Indo-US nuclear deal.

Other findings of an opinion poll conducted by CNN-IBN and Indian Express indicated that 26 per cent of those polled said they were reasonably well informed about it. Only 10 per cent professed a vague idea of what it was all about.

Interestingly, 19 per cent of Muslims are for the nuclear deal while 15 per cent are against it.

This contradicts the assumption by some people that Muslims as a community are against the deal because of the linkages with America.

As for whether the nuclear deal will be an issue among voters in a mid-term poll, a minuscule 6 per cent said yes.

Other opinions reflected party sympathies. For instance, 23 per cent of UPA supporters were for the deal and 12 per cent against.

Ten per cent Left supporters were for it and 30 per cent against, while the figures for the NDA were 20 per cent for and 18 per cent against.

Clearly for the average voter, bread and butter issues are what moves him and not issues like the nuclear deal.

What's your reaction?
