Gaza: An Israeli aircraft attacked northern Gaza, close to the office of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Tuesday.

Abbas escaped unhurt, as the missiles landed barely 100 meters away from his office compound. Mahmoud Abbas was reportedly present in his office when three missiles landed, wounding two people.

It left deep craters in the ground. This airstrike comes in response to the Palestinian rocket attacks in southern Israel.

Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haneya condemned escalated Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip.

Haneya told reporters in Gaza that the intensified Israeli military acts were targeting the Palestinian people as well as the new Hamas-led government.

The deadly shelling came in the wake of an Israeli airstrike on a largely empty Palestinian security installation.

Tuesday's Israeli attacks on Gaza are seen as a retaliation move for earlier Palestinian militant rocket launchings onto the coastal Israeli town of Ashkelon. No casualties were caused in the rocket attacks.
