CHENNAI: The State’s topper in the non-Tamil stream, V Pavithra, a student of Prince Matriculation School, is a departure from the stereotype of the studious young person. Grounded and collected, Pavithra also seems pretty laid-back. “I asked my sister, who lives in Singapore, to check my results online. When she called me, I said it cannot be me! I was very sure that the Pavithra was somebody else, not me,”she says. As the phone calls started pouring in and the TV channels announced the results, it slowly sank in, says Pavithra. To add to the drama, she woke up on Tuesday morning from a nightmare of bad scores. “I woke up at 4.30 am with a nightmare of bad scores. The English score was 139 and Physics score was 162 in the dream,” she says. Though she has always been a good student, she never thought she would get the first rank in the State.Unlike most toppers who want to be a doctor or an engineer, Pavithra is fascinated with Mathematics.  “Ramanujam is my hero. I want to be a mathematician some day. I just love calculus,” she says. As a safety measure, she might pursue engineering. “But mathematics will continue to be my first love and I will do it side by side by correspondence,” she says. Pavithra also loves music and is smitten by singer Karthik and hopes to meet him someday.
