CHENNAI:  Educated youth who live in the villages dotting the ECR (East Coast Road) were all smiles and were visibly excited. They now have a BPO job and, what is more, they don’t have to travel to the city and struggle with food and accommodation. An initiative by an ITES firm and a property developer has landed them jobs at their own backyard. The innovative, a socially conscious project launched formally on Monday by Exemplarr Worldwide’s New Operation Facility located at Amrita Research and Innovation Park in MARG Swarnabhoomi, has already trained 35 rural educated youth around Cheyyur in e-Publishing.M Akila (23) of Panaiyur a village in Kanchipuram district, a chemistry graduate who once worked in a Chennai school as a teacher with monthly earnings of `6,500, is now trained in e-publishing and earns `5,000. A major chunk of her salary turns out to be savings as she works close to home.Akila said, “When I was working in Chennai, out of `6,500, I used to spend `3,500 towards the hostel fee. I was away from home and had to suffer bad food and was home sick. End of the month, I hardly would have anything left in my hands. Now this `5,000 is almost like a saving.”Nethaji (21) from Cheyyur, a diploma engineer who turned down a Chennai job that promised to pay him `11,000 a month, instead chose to take up e-publishing. He said, “This is a very good opportunity for rural educated youths like us. Coming to a big city like Chennai and finding a job is not easy. Besides, once we find a job, finding accommodation is another battle. Now thanks to Exemplarr, we have training and also jobs that are near our own homes.” Sivagnanam (23), a diploma holder in Electronics and Electrical Engineering, wished that more such opportunities are provided to rural youths.Ranjini Reddy, MD, Exemplarr Worldwide, said, “Training and offering the rural youth an opportunity for employment had always been the mission of our project. We plan to expand this programme to benefit more rural educated youths. Already, 35 people have been trained and 25 more will be trained soon. Either we will absorb them in our facility or find placements for them in our partner companies.”A team of five trainers are training the rural youths for three weeks and now they are paid `5,000 and absorbed in the facility at the Exemplarr. They’re productively contributing towards Data Management Services, Document Management Solutions and e-publishing. Atul Raja, Group Vice President-Corporate Communication, MARG, hopes this will definitely bring about a social transformation in the lives of these rural youths.
