BANGALORE: It was an emotional day for outgoing Lokayukta N Santosh Hegde. The 'tough man', was not emotional because he was retiring, but was moved after seeing the tearful eyes of the public, many among who were asking him not to retire without knowing that he only had a 5-year term. There were villagers from remote places, NGO representatives, politicians, advocates, women and media persons. He was very busy throughout the day, and even forgot to have his lunch. In between, he was answering hundreds of phone calls. Not in a mood to send people out of his cabin, Hegde even ignored concerned reminders from his officials about lunch or tea.Asked about his postretirement plans, he said,"Yes, it would be a pleasure to spend time with my family after retirement."Hegde wished that the youth and children would fight against corruption and work for the development of the country. "It seems educational institutions do not provide value education classes to students."If the trend of corruption continues, I cannot guess the future of India," he averred.
