THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Cochin Port Trust’s ‘Kaduva’ has won M K K Nair memorial award for the best drama in the Sarga Sangamom organised by HLL Lifecare Limited. The results of the drama competition were announced by jury chairman Kavalam Narayana Panikker at a press meet held here on Monday. Announcing the award-winners, Kavalam said that the intiative taken by HLL Lifecare Limited to conduct such a programme should be lauded as other organisations were reluctant to venture to promoting drama. Hailing the move of HLL to conduct drama fest as a bold act, he said that creative talents of employees in the technical field are not being encouraged in the current times. “Theatre might be on the decline, but it would not go extinct. Drama depicts the culture of the land and socially responsible dramas can greatly help in eradicating social evils,” he said.Kavalam added that though modern dramas have fresh themes and storylines, they lack perfection regarding presentation and treatment. The other award-winners in various categories were also announced at the function.Dr Santhosh Sowparnika of HLL Lifecare Limited who directed the drama ‘Goetheye Kaath’ was selected the best director. M V Gireeshan of Keltron who played the role of Achuthan Nair in ‘Avasthantharam’ won the award for the best actor. Sreekala of Airports Authority of India who donned the role of Amba in ‘Mukthathara’ was adjudged the best actress. The awards will be presented at the Panchayat Association Hall here on November 26. Jury members S Radhakrishnan, Leela Panikker and Prashanth Narayanan were present at the meet.
