KOCHI: Amidst the ongoing protests in Tamil Nadu,  Dam 999,  the Sohan Roy movie portraying a catastrophic water tragedy involving a dam, will hit the screens in Kerala on Friday. Though Tamil Nadu has banned the film citing the possibility of an inter-state conflict, it will be released in about 500 theatres in other parts of the country. Interestingly, it was screened before a packed audience in the UAE, said director Sohan Roy and added that he would approach the Supreme Court against the ban.“It was unfortunate that Tamil Nadu officials thought the film could disturb the ties between the two states,” Sohan Roy, who’s in the UAE in connection with the release of the movie, told Express over phone. The film would be released in about 47 theatres across Kerala on Friday. The film should have been screened before the Tamil Nadu viewers instead of in Kerala, opined Kerala Mullaperiyar Cell chairman M K Parameswaran Nair. “Ideally, it should have been shown in Tamil Nadu, particularly for people in the five districts, including Kambam and Madurai where water from Mullaperiyar reservoir is being used. Only then would they comprehend what sort of a water bomb it is,”  Nair said. Though Kerala and Tamil Nadu have been locking horns over the issue for the past couple of years, it has reached a flash point now. While an all-party meeting in Kerala urged the Centre to urgently intervene in the matter, Tamil Nadu has asked the Centre to stop Kerala from creating a scare.
