CHENNAI: When Kailash Kher and his band Kailasa appeared on stage on Sunday at the Sir Mutha Venkatasubba Rao Auditorium, the crowd recorded as much as they could -- not just in their minds but also on their mobiles. For, it was a concert that was simply brilliant. It was a ‘special night’, and Kailash Kher rocked Chennai with his soul-stirring voice. Who wouldn’t want to dance when melodious numbers rent the air on a beautiful night? Enthusiastic Chennaiites danced to the sufi-inspired music. The crowd of over 200 people was completely immersed in his music, feeding off the brilliant energy from the stage. The concert proved that music truly transcends language barriers. Some of them even went on to the stage and shook a leg with Kher. For Prasanna, a software engineer, Kher’s music was therapeutic. He says, “His vocals, his rapport with the audience, everything was incredible. My friends and I went berserk when Kher was performing Teri Deewani.”Kailash Kher speaks just as wonderfully as he sings and this came across when the ‘Saiyan’ reprised his magical numbers and besotted Chennaiites with his impeccable voice. For Shilpa, Kher’s performance meant more than just an excuse to sway to some tunes. It made her emotional, in her own words, especially when he sang Ma Meri Ma. “I thought Kailash’s music was very soulful. The music seemed to come from the deepest part of his heart. Also, Kailash was a thorough performer, making us laugh with his funny stories and observations,” she says. Just like Prasanna and Shilpa, a lot of Kher’s fans were fascinated with his sufi music and stayed connected right till the end of the show. Also seen at the event was actor Karthi, along with his father Sivakumar and wife Ranjini, thoroughly enjoying every bit of it![email protected]
