Kiliroor case: HC suspends conviction

The Kerala High Court on Thursday suspended the conviction and sentence passed by the Thiruvananthapuram CBI Special Court against the four accused in the Kiliroor sex scandal case.

JustiAce V K Mohanan also granted bail to the accused. The order came on an appeal filed by Praveen, Manoj, Latha Nair and Prasanth, all convicts in the case. The court ordered that the convicts be released on bail on their executing a bond for `1 lakh each with two solvent sureties to the like amount. The court had earlier suspended the sentence against Binu, another accused in the case.

The case is related to the sexual exploitation of a teenage girl and her subsequent death at Kottayam Medical College Hospital on November 13, 2004.

The special judge had sentenced five persons to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) and imposed a fine of `20,000 on four persons and `35,000 on Binu, the fifth accused in the case.
