A personal diary maintained by the 31-year-old doctor who was allegedly raped and murdered at Kolkata’s RG Kar Hospital last week is the focus of the investigation at the moment. Sources told CNN-News18 that this diary was handed over by the parents to the probe team.
The parents of the deceased earlier told the investigating officials and the media that the murdered doctor was unhappy about something at the hospital-cum-medical college and had mentioned to her family that she did not want to go there.
Sources told CNN-News18 that the diary could provide crucial insight into the mental state of the victim. The pages are also being scanned to know if she had any interaction, threat, or altercation with accused Sanjay Roy.
Other than this personal diary, a doctor’s notepad is also being looked at for any possible leads. The notepad was found at the crime scene along with other material evidence, sources said.
Psychological analysis
The CBI, meanwhile, will subject the accused Sanjay Roy to further scientific investigations. A team of psychological experts will reach Kolkata on Sunday. “The investigating team felt the need to subject the accused to psychological analysis. A team of experts will assist in this regard,” a Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) official said.
The CBI’s team reached Roy’s residence on Saturday and collected some material evidence. The team was seen carrying away boxes of evidence from his barracks at the campus of the 4th battalion, Kolkata armed police.
Ex-principal’s questioning
The scanner of the CBI remained firmly on the conduct of the hospital management. The agency grilled ex-principal Sandeep Ghosh for a second consecutive day at its CGO Complex office in Kolkata’s Salt Lake locality. He was allowed to go back around midnight on Friday after questioning.
Officials indicated that the CBI is looking for answers as to why the suicide theory was floated by the hospital. It is also repeatedly confronting Ghosh on the reasons for the delay in calling the police. As per records, the first call to Kolkata police went at 10.10 am, 40 minutes after the body was discovered.
Sources said the CBI also wants to know why renovation work on the fourth floor of the hospital was not stopped. Ghosh has been asked to explain what the urgency of the work was. The question assumes significance amid allegations of destruction of evidence and attempts to tamper with the scene of the crime — the seminar hall — next to the renovation area.
