Lava Iris Pro 30: First impressions review
Is the Lava Iris Pro 30 match indeed a 'beauty with brains'? Find out in our first impressions review of the phone.

Lava says its new smartphone - Iris Pro 30 - the first smartphone under its Iris Pro series is inspired by the famous adage "beauty with brains." While the company has always been known for pricing its products competitively, the company this time has gone a step ahead and has crossed the Rs 15K price mark - pricing the phone at Rs 15,999.

At the launch event, I got the opportunity to use the device for quite a while and here's my first impressions on the Lava Iris Pro 30.

Standing true to the company's claims and users' expectations, the phone is quite light in weight. In fact, the company had placed portable weighing machines at the demo zone to allow users examine the weight of the phone. I found the phone over 20g lighter than my Nexus 4, and I could clearly feel the difference in weight of both the smartphones.

The phone looks nice and has an impressive and elegant back. The back is not jet black, but is a shade of black - close to grey. The back of the Iris Pro 30, for a second, brought to my mind the iPhone 5. Their backs are not identical, buy there is definitely some resemblance. The rounded corners of the phone make it comfortable to grip.

Though both the Nexus 4 and the Iris Pro 30 have a 4.7-inch screen, but the Iris Pro is slightly longer and less wide than the Nexus 4.

The Lava Iris Pro has a good display and its touchscreen is highly responsive. Viewing angles are also great.

Its 8 megapixel camera with a dual-LED flash captures photos (in soft-light conditions where I tested its camera) worth sharing on social networking sites, but are not great. I am yet to test its camera under different lighting conditions.

It has a speaker at the back which produces quality audio, but is not loud enough, and thus failed to produce audible results in noisy areas such as at the demo zone.

Lava Iris Pro runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS. Though the OS running the phone is not unadulterated Android, but the company doesn't seem to have made much modifications.

It has an internal storage space of 4GB (2.41 user accessible). Though it supports a microSD card of up to 32GB, buy I think Lava should have reserved at least 8GB for internal storage.
