New Delhi: World No 1 Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia beat Boonsak Ponsana of Thailand 21-11, 18-21, 21-8 to enter his third India Open men's singles final while Juliane Schenk went past Aprilla Yuswandari to book a place in the women's singles final here at the Siri Fort Sports Complex on Saturday.
The two Indians in the fray, Anand Pawar and PV Sindhu, lost their respective semi-final matches much to the dismay of the large home crowd.
Wei, playing the seventh seed Ponsana, lost a game to the Thai for the first time in five years after winning the first game rather comfortably 21-11. The 30-year-old Ponsana came back well stretching the Malaysian and taking the second 21-18. In the third, Wei opened up a massive lead taking seven points on the trot making it 15-8. Wei then romped home taking the decider 21-8.
In the women's draw, second seed Schenk of Germany beat the unseeded Yuswandari of Indonesia 21-18, 21-18 in 45 minutes to enter women's singles final and will be facing the Thailand's Ratchanok Intanon who eased past Sindhu in just 31 minutes.
Sindhu was dispatched in straight games 21-12, 21-6 by Intanon whereas world number 53 Anand Pawar was overwhelmed by world number nine Kenichi Tago 21-16, 21-11 earlier in the day.
In other results, top seed mixed doubles pair of Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir beat Polish pair of Robert Mateusiak and Nadiezda Zieba 21-5, 21-10 setting up the summit clash with Sung Hyun Ko and Ha Na Kim. The Korean pair defeated eighth seed of Chris Adcock and Gabrielle White of England.
In the men's doubles, Korean Sung Hyun Ko and Yong Dae Lee will meet the eighth seed Chinese pair of Xiaolong Liu and Zihan Qiu in the finals on Sunday. The women's doubles final will be between second seed Christinna Pedersen and Kamilla Rytter Juhl of Denmark and fourth seed Japanese pair of Miyuki Maeda and Satoko Suetsuna, who ousted the top seed Misaki Matsutomo and Ayaka Takahashi also of Japan 21-16, 21-14.
