Srinagar: Life remained crippled in the Kashmir valley for the second day on Wednesday due to strike called by the separatists in protest against the two-day visit of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
However, on Tuesday the strike was observed as on that day in 1947,
first Indian soldier landed in Kashmir when Pakistani intruders entered the valley from north Kashmir.
Shops and other business establishments remained closed and traffic was also off the roads. However, three wheelers and some private vehicles could be seen plying on city routes. Three wheelers had a field day, charing several time extra from the passengers.
Students, appearing in examinations of different classes, including 9th and 10th, had a very difficult time to reach their examination centres in the absence of transport.
Work in government offices, ration depots and educational institutions remained affected due to strike.
A UNI report from Baramulla said life remained crippled in this and other north Kashmir towns for the second day today due to strike with shops and business establishments closed and traffic off the roads.
Streets wore a deserted look with only security forces deployed on both sides. However, few private and security force vehicles could be seen plying on the routes.
Similar reports were received from other major towns and Tehsil headquarters.
