Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Friday said the BJP is crossing all limits in its bid to capture power and that it threatened the democratic set-up of India.
"The BJP is crossing all the limits to capture power in this election. Their behaviour is extremely dangerous for a democratic set-up in our country. Elections will come and go, but the way they are doing things and lying to the people of this country, it will harm democracy," Gandhi said at an election rally in Bhatgaon, Chhattisgarh.
In an apparent reference to Bharatiya Janata Party's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, Gandhi said no democracy could be safe in the hands of one man.
She took to task Chhattisgarh's BJP government, and said it has failed to protect the people of the state despite the centre providing all possible assistance.
"The central government provided thousands of crores of rupees to the state government but it did not utilise the funds for the people," Gandhi alleged.
