Bhopal: The Election Commission said on Saturday tthat the final polling percentage in Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh was 69.31 and not 60 per cent as given out earlier.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer J S Mathur said this while announcing re-polling in 29 centres across 14 Assembly constituencies in the state Sunday.
In 2003, Madhya Pradesh saw 67.41 per cent polling. This year's election took place on Thursday to pick a new 230-seat house.
Mathur said the highest polling was recorded (84.02 per cent) in Waraseoni Assembly segment in Balaghat. The lowest turnout was in Jobat (48.82 per cent).
Sunday's re-poll has been ordered on the basis of reports provided by district administrations to the Election Commission. The reasons range from faulty electronic voting machines, violence at polling booths and errors by election staff.
