Margaret Alva gets Woman of Substance award

Mercy Ravi was one of the political leaders who stood with the people and for the people with utmost sincerity, remembered Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.

While speaking after handing over the ‘Woman of Substance’ Award to Rajasthan Governor Margaret Alva here on Wednesday, Chandy said that Mercy’s memories are still afresh in the minds of the people even three years after her demise.

“Most of the people in the constituency, who were beneficiaries of the development initiatives taken up by her, had realised her virtue,” Chandy said.

The award was instituted by the Mercy Ravi Foundation. In his presidential address, KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala said Mercy Ravi was a woman with strong will power and individuality.

Congratulating  Margaret Alva for winning the award, Chennithala said Alva has played a prominent role in the political development of the country. “She is known for her contributions to strengthening women empowerment. She also played a significant role in making the Women Reservation Bill a reality,” he said.

The first Mercy Ravi Award was conferred on Delhi Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit last year. Union Minister Vayalar Ravi, Excise Minister K Babu, Mayor Tony Chammany, former chief secretary D Babu Paul, actor Jayaram and Mercy Ravi Foundation vice-chairman C K Menon were also present.
