CHENNAI: A 28-year-old mason, Meenakshi Sundaram from Valluvar Nagar, Chitalapakkam, was arrested for murdering a daily wage labourer at Pallikaranai on Tuesday.Police said the accused had allegedly harassed a woman in his locality a week ago and the deceased, Murugan (25), from Devanampatti, Tiruvannamalai, had questioned him over this. On Monday, both men had again argued over the same issue. Later, Meenakshi Sundaram picked up a fight with Murugan and stabbed him. Police recovered Murugan’s body and arrested Meenakshi.`4.5 Lakh StolenFrom Iron ShopA sum of `4.5 lakh was reported stolen from an iron shop in Madhavaram on Sunday.Police said Jesudass (65), an iron dealer from MKB Nagar, had left home after locking his shop located on the 200-feet road in Madhavaram, on Saturday. He returned the next morning and found the window near the cashier’s table broken open and `4.5 lakh stolen. Police said the burglars could have used a gas welding machine to open the window.Three Arrested for Stealing BikesA special police team on Tuesday arrested three persons who had stolen parked two-wheelers from places in and around Tambaram. Police said that they arrested Aravind (22) of Om Shakthi Nagar, Chromepet, Vinod alias Vinod Kumar (28) of East Tambaram and Karthik (22) a two-wheeler mechanic from Ayanavaram. Police said since Karthik was a two-wheeler mechanic, he would easily open the locks of parked vehicles.CISF Man Killed in Road MishapA CISF jawan, accompanying currency-laden trucks bound for the RBI office in Chennai, died in a road mishap in the wee hours of Tuesday. The cash from Mysore was being transported in two container lorries to the RBI in Chennai. CISF personnel accompanied the lorries in two cars. When the crew reached near Vellore at around 2.45 am, a car that was behind the lorries lost track of the vehicles due to heavy traffic. When the car reached near Vellore new bus stand, it collided with an unidentified lorry. CISF jawan Amaladoss (50) died on the spot. 3 Houses BurgledCash, gold and silver worth about `1.25 lakh were stolen from three houses in Ambur. Over half a kg of silver utensils, gold jewellery and `15,000 cash were stolen from 60-year-old Manohar’s house in Melsanangakuppam. In another burglary in the same area, Sarathammal’s house was broken into and `10,000 looted when she was away. A sack of agricultural products kept behind another house in Melsanangakuppam was also reportedly stolen.
