KOTTAYAM: The students of all five government medical colleges in the state will go ahead with an indefinite strike from Monday as talks regarding the Compulsory Rural Service (CRS) and bond system implemented by the state government failed. The Kerala Medicos Joint Action Council (KMJAC), which spearheads the strike, has given notice for an indefinite strike to the medical college principals concerned. “We started our protests and agitations against CRS and bond system two-and-a-half months ago. However, the authorities concerned totally failed to address our issues. We are forced to take extreme steps,” KMJAC convener Dr Jinesh told Express.Though the KMJAC representatives and the Department of Health and Family Welfare Principal Secretary Rajiv Sadanandan held talks last week, it was not fruitful as the Health Secretary asked for two months’ time to address the issues. Also, KMJAC president Dr Nibin Nahaz met new Health Minister V S Sivakumar, but in vain.“Around 8,000 medical students, including house surgeons, junior and senior resident doctors, will join the strike,” said Dr Nahaz.
